ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½

FREDERICTON – New Brunswick Community College (ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½) students and apprentices brought home five medals from the recent national Skills Canada competition.

The competition, now in its 24^th year, was held in Edmonton, AB on June 4^th-5^th. Students and apprentices competed in several skilled trades sectors, including machining, plumbing, electrical installations, brick masonry, automotive service, pipefitting and sheet metal work.

Team New Brunswick sent 37 participants this year, including 12 students and apprentices from ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½. Team New Brunswick had their best showing yet, bringing home 12 medals in total. 

ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ students and apprentices were pivotal to Team NB’s success, winning four silver medals and a bronze.

Aaron Johnson, an apprentice at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Woodstock Campus, won a silver in Electrical Installations; Ashley Ritchie, an apprentice at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Woodstock, took the silver in Brick Masonry; Justin McGrath, an apprentice at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Saint John, earned a silver medal in the Steamfitter and Pipefitter category; and Carrie Long, an apprentice at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Fredericton, brought home the silver in Car Painting. Jon Connors, a student at the Saint John campus, won bronze in Plumbing.

“ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ students and apprentices represented our college community well at the National Skills Competition,” said Marilyn Luscombe, President and CEO of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½. “Their achievements on the national stage speak highly of their skills and of the learning they have obtained at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½.”
